The Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department encourages family members and friends to schedule visitation. Visitation hours are Saturday afternoons, each week. Family members and friends can call on Saturday morning between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and Noon to schedule a visit for that afternoon. No calls will be accepted for visitation after Noon or before 10:00 a.m. A valid photo ID is also required to visit with a inmate.
Family and friends that wish to visit inmates must be on a visiting list that is filled out by the inmate. Four people are authorized to be placed on the list that is filled out by the inmate, this list can be changed once a month. To find out if you are on a inmates visitation list you must call during visitor registration on Saturday. Do not call and ask to be placed on a visitation list, the inmates must put you on the list if they want you to visit.
Money can be deposited in an inmates account by family members and friends for them to purchase items from the commissary system. The Commissary is open each Friday morning, all money should be deposited prior to Friday morning. Family and friends may also provide the following articles for inmates:
- 3 pair white cotton t-shirts (no undershirts)
- 3 pair white cotton underwear (brief style only)
- 3 pair white cotton socks
- 3 bras for females (no under wire bras allowed)
- 3 pair white panties for females
- Postage Stamps
- 3 soft back novels, word search, crossword or the like
- 5 photos no larger than 5X7
- All other items must be purchased through the Commissary System.
- All items must be marked with the inmates name, in black marker
- NO OTHER ITEMS THAN THOSE LISTED ABOVE WILL BE ACCEPTED
Inmates With Special Needs
If a Inmate has a special circumstance, or is in need of a special item it may be brought to the Jail Monday thru. Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00. A decision will then be made if the item is acceptable. Each case will be evaluated on a case by case basis. The Jail is equipped with a TDD phone, which may be used by the hearing impaired.
Inmate Sick Call and Dr. Visits
If an Inmate becomes ill while in the Jail, we do provide access to a Dr for the Inmates health and well being.
If a Inmate feels that they need to be seen by Dr. or they have a pre-existing condition they will be provided with a Medical Request form by a member of the Jail staff. Once this has been filled out and turned back in to the Jail staff, the Inmates medical needs will be taken care of. If a emergency medical situation arises the Inmate will be taken the the Emergency Room for treatment.
Any medication that the Inmate takes on a regular basis, must be provided by the Inmate. If the Inmate has a supply of his/her medication at home it can be brought to the Jail so that the Inmate can have it during their stay. If the Inmate needs a refill of his/her medication the Jail will take care of this, but a Inmate is required to pay for the medication if they have funds available to do so, or if they have insurance.
If a Inmate is sick during his/her stay at the Jail, family members may bring over the counter cold medication for the inmate to have. The medication must be new and unopened and marked with the inmates name. All over the counter medication must be brought to the Jail Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM to be approved for the inmates use. No over the counter medication will be accepted on weekends.
Items Brought for Inmates
Any items left for a Inmate at the Jail must be marked with the Inmates name. The Jail will not be responsible for lost or damaged items that were not marked with the Inmates name.
When A Inmate Is Transported to MDOC
When a Inmate leaves the Jail to be transported to the Missouri Department of Corrections, any items that the Inmate leaves behind will be destroyed 10 days after their departure. The Stoddard County Jail will not be responsible for items that are destroyed after the 10 day time period has passed. It will be up to the Inmate who is leaving to make arrangements for these items to be picked up. The items will also not be mailed to a address for the Inmates, a family member may pick up the items at the Jail Monday Thru. Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, family members should call the Jail before hand to make sure that the items are still here for pick up.
Before A Inmate is Transported to the MDOC, a visit may be arranged by contacting the Jail Office Monday Thru. Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Most visits will be scheduled for the day before a Inmate is transported to MDOC, and will be late in the afternoon. These visits are not contact visits. A contact visit may be arranged but only by speaking to the Sheriff, and then only under certain conditions. Contact visits will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
A Inmate when sentenced to the MDOC is allowed to take some items with them, for a list of these items contact the Jail Office, as this list constantly changes.
Inmate Phone System
Inmates are allowed to make phone call while in the Jail, in order to be able to do this the inmates family must have their home phone set up to accept these charges. The Stoddard County Jail does not have anything to do with the billing or set-up of these calls. The Jail phone system is administered by Correctional Billing Services, in Texas. If you would like to arrange to accept calls from a Inmate while he/she is here you may call 1-800-844-6591 and speak with Correctional Billing Services directly.
Inmates are not regularly allowed to use a phone outside of their assigned housing unit. If the need arises for a Inmate to make a call like this it will be at the discretion of the Jail Staff, if the Inmate is allowed to use this phone or not.
Also the Jail will not take phone messages for an Inmate, unless their is some type of family emergency, such as a death in the family, or illness If you need to pass on a emergency message tell the Jail office when you call.
A Inmate may be allowed to make a phone call when they enter the Jail Facility, but again this is up to the Jail Staff, and is dependant upon the Inmates behavior prior to wanting to make this call.
